Text design

Understandable speech

All texts of the learning case should be formulated as short, concise and understandable as possible. Please always keep in mind that you don´t create a thesis or the like, but a learning text.

  • Explain technical terms and abbreviations corresponding to the prerequisits (education level) of the target group.
For that the system provides the following possibilities:
    1. Explanations within the text: Prefer this option when it won´t overload th text and when you want all of the learners to read the explanation.
    2. Explanation in a link or inline-link: The advantage of links is that they release the text. Choose an inline-link when the explanation is very short (e.g. just a synonym).
  • Synonyms: Explain it when different terms describe the same thing.
  • Length of sentences: Avoid too long sentences and connect sentences with meaningful conjunctions (therefore, hence, thus, because,…). This facilitates reading and assists the learner to get the content faster.

Typographical design

This deals with the appearance of the text.

  • Readability of the font: Choose font size and typeface in consideration of comfortable reading. The system provides a good readable font but consider this advice when you integrate e.g. Powerpoint slides, figures and images.
  • Optically recognizable structure:Structurize your text with breaks, headings, listings and accentuations (bold, italic or underlined). This helps the learner to get the conent more quickly.
  • Less is more: Use only one typeface and economize bold, italic or underlined font.
