Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Data Protection

This is a complex topic, which may vary in accordance with the respective legislation in your country. This page is intended as a guide and summarizes the most important points to consider when creating a CASUS case:

  • You must obtain consent for each piece of multimedia material that you would like to include in your case (e.g. through a license). Please always cite the source!
  • If you create your own multimedia material, you must obtain written consent from each identifiable person on the resource. This applies to “real” patients, as well as actors, students or colleagues, etc.
  • Please save/store all consents in a secure place that only you have access to.
  • If a consent has been withdrawn, make sure to remove all relevant material from your case(s).
  • If your case is based on real patient history, please ensure that all personal details, such as name, date of birth, etc. are changed.
  • Please keep in mind that when you implement your cases all licenses and consents must include the intended type of use, especially in cases intended for commercial use.
