In order to be able to save the changes made on your case and then start working on it, click on save!
You can change the information about a case at any time you wish, you just have to click on the name of the case in the navigations frame (left-hand frame).

The case information page opens automatically in the content frame (the right-hand frame) after having opened a case and you should make the following declarations about your case before laying down the findings matrix:

  • Case-ID and creation date will be generated automatically
  • Name of the case: appears the students in the Player. Everthing shown in parentheses as prefix of the case name, is only for your information and will not be displayed in the Player.
  • Case type: Please choose
    • Learning case: Usually the type of case to choose.
    • Exam: Use “real” assessments. Cases are not accessible in the Player, only in the exam system with special exam accounts.
    • CME case: Cases for continuing medical education, only accessible thru the CME platform of CASUS.
    • Quiz: like learning cases, but more details about the success of a session is displayed for the learner in the player.
  • Name of the author(s) and Institution of the author(s): appears in the Player
  • Subject Area: this is important to filter the cases based on special fields
  • Target group: please choose your target group by clicking on the drop down menu (additional target groups can be selected after clicking on save)
  • Navigation: Choose linear or open. Linear cases have to be worked thru card by card, no forward jumping allowed. For open cases the cards can be accessed and answered in any order.
  • Language: please choose the language of your case by clicking on the drop down menu
  • Last Update: The date won't be updated automatically, so please update the date by yourself if you made changes in your case.
  • Comment: displayed in the Player on the case selection page
  • Learning objectives: Please use the button at the bottom of the page to enter the learning objectives covered in your case.

Symptoms and Disagnoses

  • Here you can enter Lead Symptoms and Diagnoses of your case. This is important for case searching.


  • Please enter here what kind of review was made (contetn/formal/pedagogical) and the reviewers' names by clicking on the hyperlink

More Metadata

  • Estimated Time: length of time the user is expected to take when working the case
  • Difficulty: please choose if your case is easy, intermediate or difficult
  • Enable longitudinal case elements (More information)
  • Editor(s): If not only authors but also editors have worked on this case, you can enter the names here. They will be displayed like the authors names in the Player.
  • ISSN/ISBN: If you ordered an ISSN or ISBN for your case, please enter this number here
  • Approved Copyrights: In case of using text, pictures and/or films which are not created by yourself you have to apply for the permit to publish the material.
  • Approved patient consent: If you use photos/films with patients in your case, please obtain the approval for publishing.
  • Internal comment: is only for your and your co-authors' information

Please click on Save to save your case initially or update your metadata.
